5.0 TRANSITION WITH EPTA: A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR COMMERCIAL REFRIGERATION

Transition 5

As a Green Transition Enabler, Epta is leading large-scale retail towards new sustainability milestones, allowing its clients to make the most of opportunities offered by the Piano Transizione 5.0thanks to its innovative, efficient and sustainable technology solutions. This represents a unique opportunity for Italian businesses - especially those in the commercial refrigeration industry - to adopt cutting edge technologies and sustainable business practices.

At a time when large-scale retail is increasingly focused on reducing consumption to improve margins and invest in innovation, the 5.0 Transition provides significant financial resources in the form of tax credits for the purchase of tangible and intangible assets (software and training) supporting the technological and digital transformation of businesses and stores.

EPTA DELIVERS 5.0 EFFICIENCY IN EVERY STORE

Epta’s turnkey projects - including new stores construction or refurbishments using the most advanced natural refrigeration solutions - demonstrate a successful example of 5.0 efficiency, aligned with the tax incentives set out in the 5.0 Transition Plan.

The implementation of fully integrated Epta refrigeration systems, based on natural refrigerants such as CO₂ and propane, allows for a reduction up to 4,000 times in the direct environmental impact of refrigeration compared to traditional systems using synthetic HFC gases. These solutions also allow direct access to the top energy efficiency classes outlined in the Piano Transizione 5.0 - a key requirement for obtaining the highest tax credit rates.

This result is also made possible by the digital tools and consultancy services provided by EptaService. With its advanced digital monitoring platforms, EptaService ensures real-time, detailed insight into the consumption and performance of each single model.

“While the Piano Transizione 5.0 had a challenging start, it now offers a real incentive for companies to innovate - bringing measurable benefits to both the environment and the entire country too” says Marco Nocivelli, CEO of Epta and Vice President of Confindustria for Industrial Policy and “Made in Italy”. He adds: “This plan has particularly rewarded companies that had already embarked on structured journeys to measure their energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, proving they deserved this opportunity.”

Beyond 2025, A FUTURE TO BE BUILT

This incentive that has obvious benefits but also strict time limits, expiring in December 2025. It’s crucial to accelerate projects now and take advantage of this opportunity to modernise Italy’s food distribution infrastructure, especially given the complexity and rising costs associated with running and maintaining old stores that rely on traditional fluorinated refrigerants. These challenges, combined with the risk of product unavailability, underscore the urgency of action.

This is why the industry is calling for an extension to 2027. Marco Nocivelli stresses the importance of a long-term strategic view: “Our hope is that this measure doesn’t remain a one off initiative ending in December 2025, but becomes structural. The real question is: what comes next?To answer that, the Government and institutions must plan the future wisely. They cannot miss a crucial opportunity for the sustainable growth of the entire national production ecosystem”.
