On 12 March, the Regional Council of Trentino Alto Adige approved the new “Guidelines for the closure of refrigeration appliances with a direct sales function ” which, promoted by the Energy Office for Climate Protection of the Province of Bolzano, put an end to energy and food waste.

The new measure, which originates from the wider Climate Plan Alto Adige 2040, foresees that from 1 May 2024, all refrigerators in new stores of the food sector must be fitted with hinged or sliding doors, to minimise energy consumption, limiting cold dispersion, for an improved conservation of the products.

The regulation, applied to all vertical, semi-vertical and combined positive temperature refrigerated furniture, and to horizontal negative temperature wells, establishes the replacement of open systems still in operation by 31 December 2030. If these were installed after 1 January 2020, the limit is postponed to 31 December 2033, to allow these technologies to complete their lifecycle, estimated to be 10/15 years, and avoid anticipated obsolescence.

EPTA GUIDES THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SECTOR

Epta confirms its leadership in the sector of commercial refrigeration and guides its transformation, promoting new measures focused on energy efficiency.

The Group recognises the numerous benefits of adopting closeable refrigerated furniture, to zero the waste of one of the traditionally most energy-consuming sectors, accounting for 40% of the consumption of an average-size supermarket.

With the goal of limiting the energy requirement of the sector, Epta takes on the important responsibility of devising innovative solutions, such as the semi-vertical positive temperature Batik/Kaleїdo, belonging respectively to the Outfit/Mozaїk ranges of Costan/Bonnet Névé which, in the Closed Version, achieves energy class B compared to the corresponding open ones in class D.

This upgrade, obtained thanks to straight sliding covers in double-glazing, is also aesthetically functional, with transparent profiles, to ensure excellent visibility of the products on display.

“The approval of guidelines in Trentino Alto Adige able to provide for the first time clear timings for the closure of the refrigeration appliances with direct sales function, is a turning point for the entire segment, not only at regional level,” claims Francesco Mastrapasqua, Institutional Affairs Manager, who concludes “As Epta, we take a keen interest in the regulatory evolution underway, and hope that this is just the first of many goals directed at energy efficiency of the sector, in the Region and throughout Italy”.
